Meladee has a car and is able to access the community with little difficulty once she gets out of her house, but there are days when those three steps at her door made it impossible for her to acces her community and be independent.

Milestone's Senior Companion program provides peer support, friendship, and assistance to older adults. Our Senior Companion Program matches volunteers who are 55 and older to older adults who need a little assistance or who experience isolation. 

While our programming has grown and changed significantly since those early years, one thing that has never changed is our commitment of treating people with dignity and respect while providing services that allow people to continue living at home while enjoying an improved quality of life.

When Cheryl reached out to Milestone for assistance, she was worried about her mom’s wellbeing. Cheryl’s parents wanted to remain living independently at home, but when her mom, Ollie, returned home from a rehabilitation facility following a hospital stay, she wasn’t as mobile as she had previously been.

Little Michael was facing his third brain surgery. His parents were told that if Michael could remember anything from his past when he woke up, that the surgery was what he needed. When Michael woke up, he saw his parents and then he asked for Granny G.

In December, shortly before the Christmas Holiday, I had the pleasure of riding on a Meals on Wheels route for the first time with two wonderful volunteers, Bonnie and Dennis Banghart.
