Deb runs a busy household. She and her husband have full time jobs and their daughter is preparing for college. So, when her father, Eric, was diagnosed with dementia, it was just one more thing Deb needed to deal with.
Eric and his wife, Eiko, had lived alone for years, and Eric had always paid all the bills and managed the household, so as he started to decline, Eiko was not prepared to step in and take care of their affairs. Also, Eric is a big guy and Eiko is under five feet tall – she was not able to physically assist him when he would fall or need assistance.
Deb and her husband decided to finish their basement and create an apartment for Eric and Eiko. Deb had watched her grandfather decline with dementia and knew what was coming for her dad. Having her folks close at hand was going to make things easier for everyone and would allow Deb to keep an eye on her parents. Eventually both Eric and Eiko gave up driving and Deb needed to help with errands and transportation needs.
As Eric’s dementia progressed, Deb helped him connect to services through the Veterans Administration. It was there that Deb was referred to Milestone Senior Services for Meals on Wheels. Deb is able to help her folks with getting some food in the house, but her parents didn’t want Deb to have to prepare all their meals because she has her own household to take care of.
Deb said that her parents were never that good at taking care of themselves, and she had been concerned that, particularly with other medical issues developing, they were not getting adequate nutrition. When they started getting Home Delivered Meals from Milestone, Deb was relieved to know they were getting well-balanced and nutritious meals.
Deb is thankful that her parents are able to continue living at home and Milestone’s Home Delivered Meals mean one less thing to worry about.
