Get to know Milestone Senior Services

Milestone Senior Services | 918 Jasper Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan

You've probably heard about the Milestone Senior Services' program Meals on Wheels, but do you know about all the other supports Milestone offers for older adults and adults with disabilities? For example, MI Choice Waiver provides assistance getting help at home for someone who wants to remain living at home rather than moving to an assisted living center. Or the Home Repair & Accessibility program that provides ramps, railings, grab bars, step repair, and other essentials for safety in an older adult’s home. The Companionship program connects older adults for visits and phone chats to reduce the isolation many older adults experience. Milestone offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for people who want to give back to the community. If you or someone you care about needs support to remain living in their home safely and happily, Milestone can help. This class will go into detail about all the Milestone Senior Services programs that support aging in place.

Tuesday, March 18  |  10:00 AM to Noon

Get to Know Disability Network Southwest Michigan

Milestone Senior Services | 918 Jasper Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan

Disability Network Southwest Michigan (DNSM) provides many programs to support people with disabilities in our community. The majority of staff at DNSWM are people with disabilities, so they are uniquely qualified to support the needs of others with disabilities. In addition to connecting people to services in the community they work on advancing justice, improving access, and advocating for inclusion for the disability community. This class will focus on some of the programs and services that are free for people with disabilities and their families in Southwest Michigan. The class will also include information about the dos and don’ts of service animals and highlight the differences between service animals, emotional support animals, and therapy animals. If you don't know what DNSWM does, or how they can help you or a loved one, this is the class for you!

Tuesday, April 15  |   10:00 AM to Noon

Getting the Last Word, Obituary Writing Basics

Milestone Senior Services | 918 Jasper Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan

Most of us never consider writing our own obituary. We figure that will eventually be someone else’s job. But did you know you can prepare the story of your life in the way you want to be remembered now? You can focus on those things that mean the most to you, rather than leaving it up to guesswork for family members and friends. Include those things that matter the most to you and leave a copy of your writing either with a funeral home or family members (or both!). Taking this class will help you learn how you can get the last word on your life’s meaning.
