Milestone’s Warriors of Waiver (WOW) is a group of MI Choice Waiver (Waiver) clients, caregivers, and staff who meet monthly to discuss the Waiver program and swap ideas. The group functions as a combination of consumer group and peer support group. The input they provide helps our staff adapt to provide all our Waiver clients with the best service we can, and also provides valuable sharing of resources between clients.
The group was established in May 2023 with a focus on providing an exchange of information to help improve the quality of life for our Waiver clients. It didn’t take long before the group used their time together to also share valuable information about how they navigate the world around them. Last year, they started a quarterly newsletter to capture and share helpful information such as community resources, life hacks, self-help, and supportive inspiration. As the group likes to say, “We are warriors fighting to help people better understand the MI Choice Waiver Program. You are not alone; W.O.W is an open group to all people in the MI Choice Waiver Program.”
MI Choice Waiver is administered through Michigan Health and Human Services to which help Medicaid-qualified individuals remain at home rather than having to relocate to a nursing facility. Milestone operates one of 19 MI Choice Waiver programs throughout the state, covering Barry, Branch, Calhoun, Kalamazoo, and St. Joseph counties.
