We opened our doors to serve older adults and adults with disabilities over 60 years ago. Since that time, we have had slight variations in our name. For the official record, our legal name is Senior Services, Inc. and we are doing business as (dba) Milestone Senior Services.
You might be wondering why we are taking the time and effort to talk about this. Well, as it turns out, it does really matter! Many people in the community know us for our Home Delivered Meals program which often gets referred to as “Meals on Wheels”—but whether you call it Home Delivered Meals or Meals on Wheels—that is just the name of one of our Nutrition programs, it is not a name that we can do business under. Sometimes people want to direct a donation to specifically benefit the Meals on Wheels program, however, if the check is made payable to Meals on Wheels, our bank will no longer accept it.
An example of this occurred recently when a previous Milestone volunteer who had delivered meals for us for years passed away and her family kindly asked that memorial donations be directed to support our Meals on Wheels program in her memory. Unfortunately, the way it was worded directed people to make a donation to Meals on Wheels, and we received numerous checks made out to Meals on Wheels which we were not able to deposit.
Please make all donation checks payable to Milestone Senior Services and know that you can direct funds to a particular program if that is important to you. In general, however, un-designated funds make a bigger impact for our agency as we can then direct the funds where they are needed the most. We appreciate your generosity!
